Position Summary:
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a skilled and dedicated Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our esteemed partner medical facility in Torrance, CA. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing a wide variety of nuclear medicine procedures, preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating sophisticated imaging equipment, and processing data to produce high-quality images for interpretation by licensed practitioners. This role demands a high degree of professional judgment, adherence to medical ethics, and the provision of appropriate patient care to ensure successful procedural completion and diagnostic accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients safely and effectively, following prescribed dosages and administration techniques.
- Perform a comprehensive range of nuclear medicine diagnostic scans and therapeutic procedures according to established protocols and physician orders.
- Operate complex nuclear medicine imaging equipment (e.g., gamma cameras, SPECT systems) and associated computer systems for data acquisition, image processing, and analysis.
- Ensure the proper functioning of all imaging equipment through routine quality control checks, calibrations, and maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to interpret scan results and provide technical input for diagnostic evaluations.
- Strictly adhere to all radiation safety protocols (ALARA principles), regulatory compliance standards (state and federal), and infection control guidelines.
- Provide clear and concise education to patients about procedures, ensuring their comfort, understanding, and cooperation.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of procedures performed, patient information, radiopharmaceutical usage, and quality control data.
- May be required to read and interpret EKGs, particularly in the context of nuclear cardiology procedures.
- Exercise professional judgment in the performance of all duties and maintain a demeanor complementary to medical ethics.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology training program.
- Must hold one of the following current national certifications upon hire:
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
- Registered Technologist in Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT(N)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Current California Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification upon hire.
- Current National Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
- Experience:
- Minimum of six (6) months of nuclear medicine experience obtained within the last year; OR
- A minimum of two (2) years of full-time nuclear medicine experience with an absence from the field of no more than one (1) year.
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles, imaging protocols, human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for accurate record-keeping.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) or more years of continuous experience in nuclear medicine imaging (though not strictly required if a recent graduate from an approved program who meets the minimum experience pathway).
- Experience specifically in nuclear cardiology procedures.
- Current ACLS certification.
