Pediatric ECMO Specialist - RN

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a highly specialized Pediatric ECMO Specialist - RN to join our partner's team at a leading Children's hospital in Houston, TX. This role is ideal for an experienced and rapid-response-oriented nurse dedicated to critical pediatric and NICU patient care using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

The successful candidate will utilize the bypass machine to assist with rapid response procedures needed to save lives in emergent situations. This is a pivotal role requiring expert clinical skills, critical decision-making in high-stakes environments, and a commitment to delivering exceptional, life-saving care to the most vulnerable pediatric patients.


Qualifications

Required:

– Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.

– Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing.

– Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).

– Minimum of 2 years of prior ECMO Specialist experience.

– Prior experience working with the pediatrics or NICU population.

Preferred:

– Additional certifications relevant to pediatric critical care or ECMO.

– Experience in a high-volume ECMO program.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Excellence

– Deliver safe and appropriate care to critically ill pediatric and NICU patients requiring ECMO support.

– Operate and manage the ECMO bypass machine during emergent situations and throughout continuous therapy.

– Coordinate the planning for the delivery of nursing care with an interdisciplinary team, making appropriate clinical decisions.

– Administer patient care based on nursing skills inventory, age, and needs of the served population.

Collaboration & Quality Improvement

– Collaborate with, direct, and delegate to the healthcare team to achieve positive patient outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care.

– Coordinate treatment plans and develop/implement discharge and/or transfer plans for ECMO patients.

– Participate in systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement initiatives, and client-centered outcomes.

– Consider the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, optimizing the patient experience.
