Nursing Director – Perioperative Services

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Nursing Director of Perioperative Services to lead surgical and procedural care delivery for a trusted partner medical facility in Detroit, MI. This pivotal role offers an exceptional leadership opportunity to oversee clinical operations, strategy, and quality improvement initiatives in a fast-paced surgical services environment.
Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and indirectly to the Administrative Director of Nursing Specialty for Perioperative Services, the Nursing Director will assume site-level leadership and administrative responsibility for all functions within perioperative nursing services. The Director will serve as a transformational leader focused on clinical quality, process efficiency, regulatory compliance, team development, and operational performance across surgical services.
This position plays a vital role in shaping policies, standardizing procedures, enhancing workforce engagement, and collaborating across multiple departments to elevate patient safety, satisfaction, and surgical throughput. The Director will champion excellence in perioperative care while cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Directly oversee operations and clinical standards for Perioperative Services, including staffing, performance, and workflow optimization
Guide strategic initiatives involving policy development, equipment standardization, and capital planning
Monitor and implement compliance with regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission and state/federal guidelines
Drive team engagement and retention through education, performance management, and succession planning
Lead audits and ensure corrective actions are executed across all areas of responsibility
Foster collaboration with senior leadership to align perioperative goals with overall hospital objectives
Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and resource allocation for optimal financial stewardship
Support diversity initiatives related to vendor relationships and staff development
Act as a resource and mentor to clinical leaders and staff across surgical specialties
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field (required); of two degrees, one must be in Nursing
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive clinical and/or management experience in perioperative services
Active Michigan RN license required
Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to develop innovative, systems-level solutions to complex administrative and clinical challenges
Expert interpersonal and communication skills, with the discretion and diplomacy needed to navigate multidisciplinary teams and high-stakes decision-making
In-depth knowledge of hospital operations and surgical services, including legal, fiscal, technological, and customer service dimensions
Demonstrated experience in project management, process redesign, and performance measurement
Proven leadership ability in complex environments, with a track record of building collaborative teams, inspiring staff, and influencing outcomes
Oversight of Perioperative Services including pre-op, intra-op, PACU, sterile processing, and OR scheduling
Collaborative role interacting with C-Suite leaders, nursing directors, physicians, and department stakeholders
