Certified Central Processing and Decontamination Technician – Philadelphia, PA
Join the Virtus Healthcare Staffing Team! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Central Processing and Decontamination Technician (CPDT) to join our partner, a leading healthcare facility in Philadelphia, PA.
Job Description:
As a CSPDT, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective sterilization and distribution of medical instruments and equipment. You will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage of reusable surgical instruments and supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instrument Processing:
- Decontaminate, inspect, and assemble surgical instruments and medical devices following established protocols and best practices.
- Operate and maintain decontamination equipment such as washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and endoscope reprocessing systems.
- Assemble instrument trays and packs accurately and efficiently.
- Sterilization & Disinfection:
- Select and implement appropriate sterilization methods (e.g., steam sterilization, ethylene oxide sterilization) based on instrument types and manufacturer’s instructions.
- Monitor sterilization processes and ensure proper sterilization parameters are met.
- Perform high-level disinfection of endoscopes and other flexible instruments.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory records of all instruments and supplies.
- Ensure the availability of necessary supplies for surgical procedures.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
- Follow all hospital policies and procedures related to sterile processing.
- Participate in safety training programs and maintain a safe work environment.
- Quality Assurance:
- Monitor and maintain the quality of all sterilization processes.
- Identify and report any potential safety hazards or quality issues.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with surgical teams, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficient workflow and optimal patient care.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification:
- Certified in Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- OR
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in central supply or operating room processing.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control principles.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining sterilization equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with endoscope reprocessing
- Experience in a hospital setting
Schedule:
- Full-time or Part-time positions available
