Nurse Manager – Labor and Delivery

Level I Trauma Center | Full-Time, Day Shift | Seattle, WA | Hiring Bonus & Relocation Assistance

Virtus Healthcare Staffing seeks a dedicated Nurse Manager – Labor and Delivery to join our partner, a leading Level I Trauma Center in Seattle, WA. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and passionate nurse leader to oversee a dynamic team and ensure the delivery of exceptional care to mothers and newborns.

Lead a High-Performing Labor & Delivery Team

As Nurse Manager of Labor and Delivery, you will be accountable for the overall management and leadership of the unit, ensuring the provision of high-quality patient care 24 hours a day. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, establish and enforce standards of nursing practice, and drive quality improvement initiatives.

Department Overview:

  • Labor and Delivery: 30 labor beds
  • OB ED: 9 beds total
  • OB ORs: 4 operating rooms
  • Births: Approximately 550-600 per month
  • Deliveries: Starting from 22-23 weeks gestation
  • NICU: Level 4 with 77 beds
  • Teams: Includes MFM team, Midwifery, OB, Family Medicine
  • Programs: Addiction Recovery program, Doula and Cultural Navigators
  • 24/7 Services: Anesthesia, Laborist, and Neonatology
  • 5 EAST Main L&D Unit: 6 bed OB ED, 14 labor rooms, 2 ORs, Charge RN, and Laborist
  • 5 South: Scheduled C-sections, overflow labor, occasional Antepartum or Postpartum overflow, Charge RN

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the provision of patient care 24 hours a day.
  • Oversee clinical operations and coordinate patient care delivery.
  • Establish and enforce standards of patient care and nursing practice.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor unit-based quality improvement programs.
  • Assure compliance with department standards.
  • Accountable for appropriate patient care and patient/family satisfaction.
  • Assume the role of patient advocate.
  • Ensure staff retention and reduce turnover.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence and assist with patient care.
  • Collaborate with the clinical nurse specialist and/or clinical educator to implement educational programs.
  • Address and resolve grievances.

Leadership Qualities and Job Requirements:

  • Engaged, personable, and focused on collaboration within the L&D and Women & Children (W&C) leadership teams.
  • Share responsibility for quality, finance, staffing, and the patient and caregiver experience.
  • Report directly to the Senior L&D Manager.

Top Priorities and Goals:

  • Continue to focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts.
  • Emphasize quality metrics and collaborate with the RN team for sustained improvement.
  • Partner with the CNS, Perinatal Educator, and team on evidence-based practice changes.
  • Interview and hire experienced staff RNs, travelers, and candidates for the residency/fellowship program for L&D.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in BSN from an accredited school of nursing, or ADN and a commitment to obtain BSN within two years of hire.
  • Upon hire: Washington Registered Nurse License.
  • Upon hire: National Provider BLS – American Heart Association.
  • 3 years of recent experience in Labor & Delivery nursing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field.
  • 1 year of first-line management experience.
