Virtus Healthcare Staffing seeks a dedicated and experienced Nursing Director of Surgical Services to join our partner, a 408-bed acute care hospital in Tucson, AZ.

Lead Surgical Nursing Excellence at a Leading Level I Trauma Center

As the Nursing Director of Surgical Services, you will provide leadership and strategic direction to the surgical nursing team, ensuring high-quality patient care and operational excellence.

Position Overview:

This full-time position offers an exceptional opportunity to lead and manage the nursing staff within the surgical services department. The hospital is recognized for its modern, minimally invasive heart and vascular surgeries, advanced stroke care, personalized cancer treatment, and comprehensive emergency care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and support to the CNO, assisting in assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing practice on a multi-unit level within surgical services.
  • Assume 24/7 responsibility for the Director's assigned areas, ensuring high-quality, safe, and appropriate nursing care.
  • Ensure competency of clinical staff and appropriate resource management related to patient care within surgical services.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes professional development and teamwork.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that align with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and quality metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement in nursing care and patient safety.
  • Manage departmental budget and resources effectively, ensuring optimal utilization and cost-effectiveness.
  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in hospital-wide committees and initiatives, representing the surgical services department and contributing to organizational goals.
  • Stay abreast of current healthcare trends and regulations, ensuring the department remains up-to-date and compliant.

Qualifications:

  • Active and current registered nurse license in the state of Arizona.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership ability and hospital operational experience.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and advocate for the professional discipline of nursing.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Required: Must be currently licensed, certified, or registered to practice the profession as required by law, regulation in the state of practice or policy.
  • CPR certification.

Education:

  • Required: Associate degree from an accredited nursing school with a bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field or a BSN.
  • Preferred: MSN or Master's in a healthcare-related field.

Work Experience:

  • Required: Two (2) years of progressive management experience in a hospital environment as a manager or full-time charge nurse/related position.
