Provide Expert Surgical Nursing Care in Scenic Kodiak, Alaska

As a Surgical Registered Nurse, you will provide comprehensive care to patients throughout their surgical experience—before, during, and after procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Job Summary:

The Surgical Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care to patients throughout their surgical experience—before, during, and after procedures. This position necessitates a strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and patient safety, along with excellent clinical and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Pre-operative Care:
  • Evaluate patients' health status and medical history.
  • Deliver pre-operative education and instructions.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including assisting with hygiene and ensuring proper attire.
  • Initiate IVs and administer prescribed medications.
• Intra-operative Care:
  • Assist surgeons and surgical technicians during procedures.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and maintain a sterile environment.
  • Provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team.
  • Document surgical procedures accurately.
• Post-operative Care:
  • Monitor patients' recovery and vital signs.
  • Manage pain and administer medications.
  • Provide wound care and dressing changes.
  • Instruct patients on post-operative care and discharge instructions.
• Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and their families, offering support and answering questions.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized surgical suite.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong understanding of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
