Respiratory Therapist – Norfolk, VA

Join our team and experience a rewarding career in a supportive and collaborative environment. We are seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join a leading healthcare facility in Norfolk, VA.

Position Overview:

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a vital role in assessing, treating, and managing patients with breathing disorders. You will utilize a wide range of therapeutic interventions to improve patients' respiratory function and quality of life. This position will focus on a 101-bed Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) specializing in the care of patients with complex medical needs, including those on ventilators and with tracheostomies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care:
    • Assess and monitor patient respiratory status, including vital signs, blood gases, and lung sounds.
    • Administer respiratory treatments, such as bronchodilator therapy, aerosol treatments, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive ventilation.
    • Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, including adjusting ventilator settings and troubleshooting equipment.
    • Perform pulmonary function tests and other diagnostic procedures.
    • Educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques and self-management strategies.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team:
    • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
    • Participate in rounds and case conferences to discuss patient care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records:
    • Document all patient care activities accurately and completely.
  • Ensure patient safety:
    • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
    • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Virginia.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in an acute care setting, particularly with long-term acute care (LTACH) patients, is preferred.

Skills and Certifications:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (required)
