Woman awarded $7.1 million after misread CT scan causes blindness

A jury in Erie County, PA, has awarded a woman $7.1 million after a misread CT scan caused her to become legally blind, according to a September 30 article published by Erie News Now.

The ruling stems from an incident in November 2020 when Allison Mitchell underwent a CT exam performed by Anil Kumar Bhardwaj, MD, of Foundation Radiology in Pittsburgh. The article states that Bhardwaj failed to identify brain clots visualized on the exam.

The jury awarded Mitchell $2.35 million for future medical costs, $1.28 million for lost earnings, and $3.5 million for reported pain and suffering.
