Penn Medicine has named Pari Pandharipande, MD, as chair of its department of radiology, effective June 1, 2025.
Pandharipande has served as chair of radiology at the Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine and chief of radiology services at Wexner Medical Center since 2021. She previously spent 17 years at Massachusetts General Hospital as a physician and researcher, studying topics ranging from imaging value to cancer screening, surveillance, and treatment selection.
She has also served as associate chair of integrated imaging and imaging sciences; as executive director of clinical enterprise integration for Mass General Brigham Radiology; and as the director of the MGH Institute for Technology Assessment, a multidisciplinary health outcomes research institute. Pandharipande led an NIH-funded research program centered on imaging and cancer outcomes, which continues at OSU.
Pandharipande has filled numerous leadership roles for medical societies such as the RSNA, the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute (HPI), and the American Cancer Society (ACS), among others.
She earned both her undergraduate and medical degrees from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and a master’s degree in public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.
Pandharipande will succeed Mitchell Schnall, MD, PhD, who is currently Penn Medicine’s inaugural Senior Vice President for Data and Technology Solutions. William Stavropoulos, MD, will continue as interim chair during the transition period before Pandharipande begins her new role.
